The Hawk Mountain Council

Teaching leadership & values while providing recreational activities for children of all ages, The Hawk Mountain Council, Boy Scouts of America headquartered in Reading, PA serves more than 6,500 young people in three Pennsylvania counties:

  • Berks County
  • Schuylkill County
  • Carbon County (Panther School District Only)

It is among the largest youth-serving organizations in the three-county area led by over 2,900 volunteers. Hundreds of community organizations, representing educational, religious, non-profit, civic, and business organizations join in partnership with Hawk Mountain Council by chartering over 180 Scouting units (packs, troops, teams, crews, posts and STEM Scout Labs).

If you are new to Scouting, let us introduce you and your children to a world where they will build lifetime friendships, while learning leadership skills, active citizenship, personal fitness, and practical knowledge through their participation in a diverse array of activities including camping excursions, summer programs for teens and much, much more. From Cub Scouting, with thrilling outdoor programs such camping, and other outdoor adventures – on to Scouts BSA and Venturers, with camporees, summer camps, Scouting shows, and national jamborees – families can enjoy building a lifetime of experiences unmatched by other organizations.

If you have an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math, STEM Scouts may be the place for you. The Hawk Mountain Council is one of 32 Councils nationwide to offer STEM Scouts. Science, technology, engineering, and math aren’t just for the classroom anymore. STEM Scouts brings girls and boys together to shape, tinker, explore, and make. From robots to chemical reactions and circuits to insects, STEM Scouts gives kids the opportunity to dive into a breadth of STEM topics while meeting STEM professionals and learning to both work together and lead.

Explore our website and find out more about Scouting in the Hawk Mountain Council. We offer a great deal of information for parents about the benefits of Scouting.

STEM Scouts

STEM Scouts is a national pilot program from the Boy Scouts of America, focused on fun ways for girls and boys, grades 3 – 12, to learn more about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Using hands-on activities, STEM Scouts also encourages young minds’ natural curiosity and helps build interest in the STEM-related careers that are crucial to our future economy.

The Hawk Mountain Council is home to 17 STEM Labs in Berks and Schuylkill Counties.

Scouts BSA?

What is Scouts BSA

Scouts BSA is the traditional Scouting experience for youth in the fifth grade through high school. Service, community engagement and leadership development become increasingly important parts of the program as youth lead their own activities and work their way toward earning Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout.

Join Scouts BSA

Scouts BSA has a lot to offer, but don’t let the number of merit badges scare you away. With exposure to a uniquely hands-on learning experience and the opportunity to earn merit badges reflecting each Scout’s budding interests, youth unlock a world of discovery around them and forge a path for the future.

Cub Scouting

Cub Scouting

Cub Scouting is fun for the whole family.  In Scouting, boys and girls start with their best right now selves and grow into their very best future selves. It’s fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life.

Aims and Methods

Aims and Methods: The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

There are four aims of Scouting: citizenship, character, personal fitness, and leadership.

The methods of Cub Scouting are: living the ideals, belonging to a den, advancement, family involvement, activities, serving the community, and the uniform.
