Citizenship in Society Merit Badge

Citizenship in Society Logo

Citizenship in Society is a new Eagle required merit badge. The emphasis of this merit badge is for Scouts to explore ways to live the Scout Oath and Scout Law.  This merit badge is different; there will be no merit badge book and there is no “correct” answer for any of the requirements. Download the merit badge requirements and the merit badge workbook below. This parent letter gives background information about the merit badge and who to contact if there are questions regarding the subject matter: Parent Letter Citizenship in Society 03.2022 Signed.

Download the merit badge requirements here: Citizenship in Society MB Requirements

and the merit badge workbook here: Citizenship in Society MB Guidebook. NOTE: This is not an official BSA document and is not required for any class but can be helpful in earning the merit badge.

Scouting for Food

Thank you for an Outstanding Good Turn

This year our Scouting For Food Annual Good Turn brought in more than 102,000 lbs of food to help families in Berks & Schuylkill Counties.

We greatly appreciate all the service by our youth, volunteers, and Units who participated this year.

Did you realize that one of every three people served by food banks are children? In Berks and Schuylkill counties, over 100,000 people qualify for food assistance. The Hawk Mountain Council, through SCOUTING FOR FOOD, is proud to be a major supporter of the effort to help those in need.

Frontier District Scouts BSA Klondike Derby

Join Frontier District for some chilly fun at our Klondike Derby. Never been to a Klondike Derby before? It’s an outdoor event where patrols of Scouts BSA scouts can put their winter camping and scout skills to the test in a friendly competitive environment. We encourage Troops to invite their pack’s Webelos to join them.

National Youth Leadership Training (Weekend 2)

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is the premier youth leadership program offered by Hawk Mountain Council. NYLT is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and crews, and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.

The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what a leader must KNOW, and what a leader must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership.

NYLT is a six-day course. Content is delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced early, built upon, and aided by the use of memory aids, which allows participants to understand and employ the leadership skills much faster.

Course Specifics

Hawk Mountain Council’s NYLT course will be held this August over two weekends at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation.

Weekend 1 – Saturday, August 14 through Monday, August 16
Weekend 2 – Friday, August 20 through Sunday, August 22

The fee for the course will be $295.00 and includes all lodging, meals, and course materials. $100.00 is due at the time of registration.
