Scouting for Food

Thank you for an Outstanding Good Turn

This year our Scouting For Food Annual Good Turn brought in more than 102,000 lbs of food to help families in Berks & Schuylkill Counties.

We greatly appreciate all the service by our youth, volunteers, and Units who participated this year.

Did you realize that one of every three people served by food banks are children? In Berks and Schuylkill counties, over 100,000 people qualify for food assistance. The Hawk Mountain Council, through SCOUTING FOR FOOD, is proud to be a major supporter of the effort to help those in need.

IOLS – Intro to Outdoor Leadership Skills – Campsite Edition

Intro to Outdoor Leader Skills is a mandatory training for all registered Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. We will be covering the fundamental skills necessary to successfully and safely take a Scouts BSA troop or patrol on an outing. The Campsite Edition of IOLS has participants simulate a classic Scout “car camping” weekend. Therefore participants will carry their gear a short distance from a vehicle to a campsite. They will set up their tents at the site, and remain there other than short expeditions.

National Youth Leadership Training (Weekend 2)

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is the premier youth leadership program offered by Hawk Mountain Council. NYLT is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and crews, and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.

The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what a leader must KNOW, and what a leader must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership.

NYLT is a six-day course. Content is delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced early, built upon, and aided by the use of memory aids, which allows participants to understand and employ the leadership skills much faster.

Course Specifics

Hawk Mountain Council’s NYLT course will be held this August over two weekends at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation.

Weekend 1 – Saturday, August 14 through Monday, August 16
Weekend 2 – Friday, August 20 through Sunday, August 22

The fee for the course will be $295.00 and includes all lodging, meals, and course materials. $100.00 is due at the time of registration.
