IOLS – Intro to Outdoor Leader Skills – Backpacking Edition

Intro to Outdoor Leader Skills is a mandatory training for all registered Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. The course covers the fundamental skills necessary to take a Scouts BSA troop on an outing.

Participants hike to multiple stations across camp to simulate a backpacking trip while learning. Prepare to move while carrying your gear!

Scouts BSA Leader Specific Training

Scoutmaster Position-Specific training is the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster training for adult leaders of Scouts BSA troops. However, committee members and other adults connected to a Scouts BSA troop are welcome to attend.

Committee Member/Chair training is the training for Committee Members and Committee Chairs of Scouts BSA troops. While designed primarily for Committee Members and Chairs, other adults connected to a Scouts BSA troop are welcome to attend.

Wood Badge 2021 – Weekend 2

Wood Badge is BSA’s premier leadership training program that was started in 1919 by Lord Baden-Powell, founder of Scouting and Wood Badge’s first Course Director. This program came to America in 1948 and is continually adapted to reflect current BSA policies and best practices for leadership development, and utilizes the best training techniques available.

Training Convention

Join the Council Training Committee in the opportunity for in-classroom leader training over Zoom for different adult position specific leader trainings. The trainings that will be taught are:

  • Den Leader & Cubmaster (all in one class)
  • Scouts BSA Leader Specific
  • Pack/Troop Committee & Charter Organization Representative (all in one class)

Cub and Scouts BSA Training Day

Does your unit have leaders in new positions?
Do you prefer to join a live training class rather than participate in on-line course work?
Is YPT expiring and you’d love to run through this with other volunteers?
Do you know scouts interested in Den Chief training or units hoping to enrich their ILST skills?

Training Day at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation – Saturday, November 21, 2020
Half day and full day sessions will be offered. Spend the day to fulfill the training requirements for your
position. Youth Protection Training and the course for your specific position are required to earn your
Trained patch! Wear it proudly on your uniform!

AM Session (9am – 12pm)

  • Den Chief (Youth)
  • Cub Scout Training – Den Leader, Cubmaster, and Pack Committee (Adult)
  • Youth Protection Training (Adult)

PM Session (12:30pm – 3:30pm)

  • How to run Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) in your unit (Youth and Adults)
  • Scouts BSA – Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Troop Committee (Adult)
  • Youth Protection Training (Adult)

Trainings will be conducted at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation (HMSR). Trainings will be held outdoors in covered pavilions, please check the weather and plan accordingly.

Scouts BSA Leader Specific Training

Scoutmaster Position-Specific training, course Code S24, is the BSA’s initial level of training for adult leaders of Scouts BSA troops. It is designed primarily for Scoutmasters and assistant Scoutmasters. However, committee members and other adults connected to a Scouts BSA troop are welcome to attend.

Committee Member/Chair training, course Code WS10, is the BSA’s initial level of training for Committee Members and Committee Chairs of Scouts BSA troops. While designed primarily for Committee Members and Chairs, other adults connected to a Scouts BSA troop are welcome to attend.

Intro to Outdoor Leader Skills – Campout Style

Intro to Outdoor Leader Skills is a mandatory training for all registered Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters. We will be covering the fundamental skills necessary to successfully and safely take a Scouts BSA troop or patrol on an outing.

The Campout Style of IOLS has participants simulate a classic Scout “car camping” weekend, where participants carry their gear a short distance from a vehicle to a campsite, set up their tents at the site, and mostly remain there other than short expeditions.
