Black Rock District

Named after the black rock that is found in the area, anthracite coal. Coal mining in the area has been a way of life for many, many years.

Districts are created by local councils to help deliver the Scouting program in a particular geographic area within a council’s boundaries.

Black Rock is charged with helping the units to deliver Scouting programs in 13 school districts (listed below). Also, and very importantly, our commissioner staff is there to help units iron out issues to ensure quality programs and run monthly Roundtables for leaders to provide them with useful information.

Programmatically, the district runs several activities in a given year. Please see the Council calendar for upcoming events.

Our Advancement Committee works with future Eagle Scouts to approve projects and schedule boards of review. They are also just an email or phone call away for any other advancement related questions!

We also have representatives on our council program committees including Camping, Advancement, Activities, and Training. These Scouters work to support council efforts and give input into council decisions. And, we work with our professional staff to provide membership support.

Who are members of the Black Rock leadership?

District Key 3

District Chair District Commissioner District Executive
Greg Sklar David Lafko David McKeown

When are the regular meetings that Black Rock District hosts?

District Committee Meeting
Second Thursday of the month | 6:30 PM
Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch St. in Pottsville Meeting location changes occasionally at the Committee’s discretion – reach out to the District Chair if you wish to attend to confirm location.

District Commissioner Meeting
Third Tuesday of the month |6:00 PM
Virtual meeting via Zoom teleconference service
Reach out to the District Commissioner to receive the link to attend

District Roundtable
Third Wednesday of the month | 7:00 PM
Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch St. in Pottsville
All are welcome and encouraged to attend!

The above events recur on a monthly basis on same time and day – please use this consistency to help plan your unit’s calendar. It would be beneficial to your unit and the district as a whole to send at least one representative to Roundtable each month. In the event of a location change due to weather, ample notice will be given and the specific event calendar page will be updated to reflect that temporary change.
