Welcome to the Hawk Mountain Council, BSA

We would like to say thank you. Thank you for your willingness to try out our great organization and all the fantastic benefits it has to offer your boy as he grows. Scouting is about character development and having confidence in yourself to Be Prepared!

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is the largest youth organization in the United States with over 1.5 million youth members and 1 million registered adult leaders.

Locally, the Hawk Mountain Council serves over 5,500 young men and women through the dedication of over 2,000 adult leaders and Friends of Scouting. We partner with over 160 churches and civic organizations that host one of our Scouting units. Together, our family provides over 305,000 community service hours each year.

What Is A Parent’s Role In Scouting?

Scouting With Your Child

As a parent, you’re a primary role model for your child. Scouting provides a time-tested structure that helps bond parent/child development through group and individual activities, recognition and advancement. Your child needs your encouragement, guidance and participation along his or her Scouting path.

Scouting also recognizes that the make up of a family or who plays a parental role can vary greatly. We are a program for Dad, Mom, Grandparents, Uncles, and any other individual who is active in the boy’s life.

Volunteering

New volunteer leaders in Scouting can take their initial Fast Start training at the BSA’s Online Learning Center (OLC) at www.olc.scouting.org. Fast Start training is required before volunteers can participate in youth activities. [Read more…]

Camping at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation

The Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation is a 700-acre tract of land dedicated to offering Scouts the chance to experience the beauty of the outdoors. We serve over 2,000 Boy Scouts each summer. We are proud to be involved with the Forest Stewardship Program through the state of Pennsylvania.

Camping is the great outdoor adventure of Scouting. The most crucial element of camping is that each Scout should have the opportunity that the Boy Scout Handbook promises.

Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation offers long-term camping (6 nights) to Boy Scouts from the Hawk Mountain Council as well as other visiting Councils. Our Camp operates 7 weeks during the summer with 20 Campsites available to Troops. The Scouts sleep in platform tents on canvas cots. We offer a variety of programs, merit badges and, of course, a well-stocked Scout Shop.

Cub Scouting

Cub Scouting

Cub Scouting is fun for the whole family.  In Scouting, boys and girls start with their best right now selves and grow into their very best future selves. It’s fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life.

Aims and Methods

Aims and Methods: The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

There are four aims of Scouting: citizenship, character, personal fitness, and leadership.

The methods of Cub Scouting are: living the ideals, belonging to a den, advancement, family involvement, activities, serving the community, and the uniform.
