STEM Scouts helps girls and boys learn about science, technology, engineering and math through creative, hands-on activities, field trips and interaction with STEM professionals.
WHAT IS STEM SCOUTING?
- STEM Scouts is a national pilot program from the Boy Scouts of America
- For girls and boys and grades 3 – 12
- To learn more about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by using hands-on activities.
- The Hawk Mountain Council is home to 17 STEM Labs in Berks and Schuylkill Counties.
MISSION:
Using experiential activities and interaction with STEM professionals, the goal of the STEM Scouts program is to help young people grow in character and skills as they explore their curiosity about STEM fields. It is hoped that their growing knowledge will translate into the STEM-related careers that are so crucial to our country’s future economy. While the program focuses on future careers in STEM, it is ultimately designed to be challenging, thought-provoking and, most importantly, fun.
FIND A LAB IN YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY!
Exploring is all about helping young adults make a more informed decision about future careers and determine if a particular career is the right one for them.
Exploring is Learning for Life’s career education program for young men and women who are at least 14 (and have completed 8th grade) and not yet 21 years old. Typically, a young adult will either: 1) get involved, learn about a career, and decide to pursue it; or 2) learn enough about the career to determine it’s not the right fit for them. It’s better to learn as a young adult that a career is not for you, rather than after spending lots of money on an education only to discover you don’t like the career!
Exploring leaders volunteer their time to provide real-world career experiences for young adults. exploring is not about lectures and slide shows – it’s about gaining practical experience in a career field. the result is a program of activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, and develop.
