Herbie Nationals- Council Pinewood Derby

Get the popcorn ready because you will be able to watch your pinewood car race on TV! The Hawk Mountain Council is hosting the Herbie Nationals and it will air on BCTV and the Council Youtube Channel on Friday, April 9th at 7:00 pm and Saturday, April 10th at 8:30 pm.

Registration Information:
Cost: $5.00 to race, 3 guaranteed runs for every car!

Drop Off: Drop car off at Beaver Family Service Center at 5027 Pottsville Pike, Reading, PA between Monday, March 22 and Friday, March 26 in a small box labeled with your Name, Phone #, Pack, Den, Troop, email, and proof of registration. A unique Race Number will be assigned at the council office when you pay and drop-off the car. The race number is how each car will be identified during the race.

Pick-up: Cars can be picked up at the Beaver Family Service Center between the dates of Monday, April 12, and Friday, April 16. Cars remaining after the final date will be donated to the afterschool ScoutReach program.

Divisions:

  • Cub Scouts Lions – Tigers – Bears – Wolf – Webelos & Arrow of Light Candidates
  • Scouts BSA, combined with Adults.

Awards: 1st, 2nd, 3rd awarded per division. Each participant will receive a Pit Pass to be worn while watching the race!

Rules and Regulations (R&R): All Pinewood Derby Rules & Regulations must be followed in order to race. All R&R must be met when dropped off at Beaver Family Service Center!

The races will be recorded and aired on BCTV and the Council Youtube Channel. Only race staff and video crew will be present during races. In order to adhere to COVID-19 regulations, spectators are not allowed at the filming location.

Cyber Chip: As Scouts do more and more activities online, the Cyber Chip moves to the top of the “must do” list. The Cyber Chip activities include developmentally appropriate online safety lessons and activities.

 

Emergency Preparedness Award: Activities are broken out for each Cub rank and each Scouting program, including Venturers, Sea Scouts, and adults! (That means adults can earn this, too!)

 


BSA Crime Prevention Award: Although the site explaining this award has not been updated for awhile, the award is still available to Scouts of all levels!
