Important Update on COVID-19

Hawk Mountain Council, BSA & the National BSA Statement on Covid-19 – Reaffirmed February 2022

Dear Scouts, Leaders, and Supporters,

The safety of our Scouts, volunteers, employees, and communities continues to be our top priority.  We must continue our vigilance to assure that youth and their families are safe while they enjoy the many benefits of Scouting.

We continue to follow the guidance from expert agencies and follow the measures that have become second nature to many – hand hygiene, masks, distancing, meeting in cohorts and remaining at home if you have symptoms or feel bad.

We encourage everyone to consult with their physician and get vaccinated. It is our best hope for returning to normalcy in our Scouting family.

The critical need of today is for all to understand the rationale for our caution and actions. Because of the pandemic, fewer youth have joined our Movement. To welcome new members and their families, we must demonstrate that we are safe and are concerned with the health of all. The success of the Scouting program depends on conducting regular meetings and activities in a safe and responsible way.

All units must follow their Charter Partners guidelines as it relates to any meeting requirements inside and outside their meeting facility.  As always, please be mindful of the Scout Oath and Law as we continue to navigate a safe return to the activities we enjoy.

Hawk Mountain Council encourages you to review the COVID-19 FAQ by the National BSA for additional guidance on In-Person Unit Activities and Advancement.  Also, we encourage you to review the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on current practices related to Covid-19.

Going Green in HMC

New Update (July 17, 2020):

As of July 16, Governor Wolf made some changes to the current meeting size of groups.  The new meeting size is under 25 people for inside meetings.  Please keep this in mind for any unit meetings.  Outdoor activities or events are still allowed to have up to 250 people, but must follow all social distancing guidelines.

Covid-19 Office Procedures – Green Phase Opening

Dear Volunteers and Supporters,

As we move into the green phase under the Gov. Wolf’s reopening plan for Pennsylvania in Schuylkill County, our goal is to provide the safest working environment as we continue to reopen our council. This will be a group effort and all employees and volunteers will need to help maintain these standards.

The National BSA has provided some initial guidance on preparing our units to begin reopening. The SAFE Restart Scouting Checklist is an important document that every unit should read. SAFE stands for Supervision, Assessment, Fitness and Skill, and Equipment and Environment. Please Click to review this document.

As you are aware, we opened the office on June 8, 2020. Our office will be open from 9 AM to 5 PM and the Scout Shop will be open from 10 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday. Please note these hours are different from our normal operating hours prior to Covid-19 and we will continue to monitor our business operations during the green phase. [Read more…]

Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation Summer Camp Update

Dear Scouting family,

First and foremost, we hope this email finds you and your family well. It goes without saying that we are living through unprecedented and concerning times.

As always, your safety and the safety of all our members, volunteers, and employees is the Hawk Mountain Council’s top priority. As such, we have taken a careful and informed approach in evaluating whether to offer our resident summer camp and day camps this year. Since the spread of COVID-19, we have continued to monitor the situation, consult with health experts, government officials, and other camping professionals.

It is with a heavy heart that after a thorough review, the Hawk Mountain Council Executive Committee has decided to suspend all resident camp and day camp programs at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation for the 2020 summer season. We know camp is an important part of every Scout’s summer, and this decision was not made lightly.

National Youth Leadership Training

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is the premier youth leadership program offered by Hawk Mountain Council. NYLT is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and crews, and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.
