Appalachian District News
Life to Eagle
Monthly Life to Eagle packet reviews are going to be held the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm at
Muhlenberg High School. These conferences are for scouts who recently made Life rank and are preparing to
earn the rank of Eagle. The conference reviews the contents of the Life to Eagle Packet and gives a
step-by-step description of the process of going from Life to Eagle. It is imperative that Scouts attend
the conference and do not download Life to Eagle Packets off the Internet. If you have any questions contact
James Kohler at 610-562-5140.

Trail’s End Popcorn
Thank you to all the packs, troops and crews who participated in the first popcorn sale. This is the
best fundraiser for our scouts to earn money to fund next year’s summer camp. In addition because the Boys
can sell Trails End in their scouting uniform, it makes scouting visible in our neighborhoods and that can
have a positive effect on recruiting new scouts. There is still time to take advantage of the second sale.
This will not only place additional funds in the scouts’ accounts but will also increase the above and beyond
incentives for the units. Don’t wait, contact our District Popcorn Chair, Tim Seidel, at 610-921-3585 and
sign up now.
Centennial Unit Awards
Please make sure you review your Centennial Unit Award forms and that you are striving to reach the
goals that you set for your unit.
In the near future, you will be contacted by your unit commissioner, ADC or District Commissioner
to review your goals.
Cub Scout and Boy Scout Roundtables
Appalachian District holds a monthly roundtable meeting for adult volunteers (except June and July). The
roundtables are held the second Tuesday of each month and are held at Muhlenberg High School. Each unit
should send someone to the Roundtable to learn new program ideas, pick up information packets and to share
thoughts with other units.
Membership- It is always time to sell the Adventure
This year’s school recruitment went well throughout most of the district. The unit leaders and
commissioners deserve a big thank you for doing a great job. The recruitment effort does not stop with
school night. Adults should talk to friends with children of scouting age. Talk about scouting at church,
social groups and work. Make your love of Scouting known. Encourage your scouts to invite friends to join.
There is a lot of competition for children’s time and if we don’t sell it year round a lot of boys will miss
the chance to belong to one of the best youth organizations available. The truth is, it can take up to six
invitations before a boy will join. Don’t give up the challenge, the results are worth it.
