Paul R. Roedel Science & Technology Center

Hawk Mountain Council's leadership continues with another "first in the nation", the Paul R. Roedel Science & Technology Center. The center is located at the Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation. It was dedicated in July 2001 and named for Paul R. Roedel former Council President, community leader and former CEO of Carpenter Technology. The center is the focal point of the reservation along with the Gateway plaza. The plaza includes "The Boy Scout", a famous statue by R. Tait McKenzie on the Triangle built with the commemorative bricks purchased in the Capital Campaign plus two large flagpoles.

The building has four program areas and has been used to teach six merit badges as well as to teach groups of Cub Scouts.

The Great Hall, that can seat around 320 people, was donated by VF Corporation to honor Larry Pugh. The second area is the Energy Room, donated by Delight Breidegam. These areas are used to teach the Aviation, Electricity, Energy and Space Exploration merit badges.

Both the Cub Scout Day Camp and the Boy Scout Camp use the Starlab, donated by Philip D. Wolfe. The Planetarium can accommodate up to forty-five scouts and can be used for many wonderful presentations. It is used extensively for the Astronomy merit badge for star location and identification. It has also been used for many Cub Scout presentations on topics like American Indian constellations, Ancient Greek constellations, star legends and the planets.

The Communication Center contains 24 computers that are networked together. They are used for Computers merit badge, specialty camps and for other computer projects. For the merit badge these computers have been used for database, spreadsheet, word processing, graphic, and communication projects.
